When I first moved to Santee, Ca the biggest complaint I had about the city is it's lack of places to eat. Sure there are two jack n the box's, mcdonalds, wendys, and a plethora of mexican food spots. But it was really lacking places you want to eat at. Santeeians...or uh Santeecians...well, people from Santee are familiar with the "Chili's or Olive Garden" debate. My wife and I have had that debate numerous times which usually ended up with us driving out of Santee to go out to dinner. That is until we discovered Landres Sports Bar and Grill.
I have been to many restaurants that claim to be a Bar and Grill and it usually means they are either a really good bar with bad food or a really good restaurant with a couple of TV's in the bar area. Landres is one of the few that has found that perfect blend of a family friendly restaurant with really good food AND a sports bar. What I really love about Landres is that it is locally owned. They support local sports from the high school level and up. I get it, we are in San Diego... it would be really easy for a restaurant to put up some Chargers posters and maybe a Padres jersey. But walking into Landres you almost get a history lesson of athletes and sports teams from right here in Santee. That is rad.
"Oh, but we have little kids so eating out is pretty much a nightmare"
If you want a spot to take the family, Landres offers a dining area equipped with a kids play place. Instead of just putting some video games in a back room (which usually leads to mom or dad having to follow the kids around) the play area is off to the side with low walls. You can keep an eye on your kids and still enjoy dinner with your wife or husband from any seat in the house. As a parent, I really appreciate that a restaurant takes that into account. (take note every pizza place ever...)
And the food.... I am a self proclaimed burger snob. (No, I don't think Hodad's has the best burger ever.) and Landres hits the nail on the head with the Santee Slammer burger (pictured above.) First bite and you experience the freshness of burger patties and bacon. These burgers aren't pulled from the freezer in back and thrown together. If burgers aren't your thing, the menu is full of great food from Italian dishes, BIG ass rack of ribs, and a wide range of sandwiches. Below are a few images of just a small selection of their full menu. Next time someone says to you "Chili's or Olive Garden" reply back "Landres!"
You can check out their full menu and list of events on their website or better yet, Like them on Facebook for daily specials.
