I loved getting to photograph Luis and Tricia's engagement photos. When people tell me they wish to just capture who they are, it gives a photographer a chance to get outside the box and work in an environment that isn't familiar. I think in doing so, you really have to rely on the couple and the images result in being focused on the couple more than if a session is shot at a token location. You can't fall back on your "this is my beach shot, this is my shot by the tree's." Although it is much harder to do, I love it.
When I talked with Tricia, she said they wanted to just walk around their neighborhood for their session. Their neighborhood is a really cool part of Adams Ave filled with small businesses, cool little restertants and bars. It is home to one of my favorite coffee houses, Lestat's. We started out at the Triple Crown Pub and then just ventured through the streets until sunset, only stopping to get their boston terrier to join in on the shoot. With Tricia and Luis already knowing what they wanted from their session, it was super easy to photograph them. Despite Luis saying he felt uncomfortable in front of the lens (who isn't, right? I know I am...) both Tricia and Luis felt so natural to photograph. I sometimes will ask for certain poses and then let clents feel them out and make them their own, but these two just rocked everything before I had to say a word.
Below are some images of their engagement session as we walked the streets of their neighborhood.
