I realized I do not post a lot of my personal photos on my blog. I am not sure why. Some of my favorite photos are just of me and the family hanging out. I think photographers get their best work when they aren't thinking about it. I always want to challenge yourself to do good work or to put out stuff that is original and different.
I am completely guilty of trying to mimic other photographers style.
Reading so many blogs, view photographers websites, read the magazines, etc and the next thing I know I am trying to pull stuff off that isn't me. I know this is true for other photographers because we have talked about it. Having to have the constant voice in your head telling you to not listen to anything and JUST SHOOT!
I have had some horrible attempts by not listening to that voice (or it being replaced with clients telling you what you should be shooting...) But in the comfort of my family the pressure to sell or create images for the business side of photography is gone and my true self and style come out. Maybe one day when the kids are older I will hold their documented youth for ransom. I know I have more than a few photos that could at least be used for blackmail if the ransom thing doesn't work out.
