There is a saying in Texas that I am sure you have heard before. "Everything is bigger in Texas." With the 6'6" groom being from Texas to the amazingly beautiful church to the most epic venue location at the Ultimate Skybox overlooking downtown San Diego....this wedding had every aspect of being bigger. And awesome. Glen and Desiree's wedding was filled with great family and friends and I want to thank them for allowing me to photograph such an important day and welcoming me in and making me feel like old friends. Last year I photographed their engagement session and also photographed their rehearsal dinner at Scripps Seaside Forum, so I actually got more time than usual to get to know a bride and groom as well as the wedding party.
The day started out with everyone getting ready at the Omni Hotel in downtown San Diego. The Omni is easily the nicest hotel in San Diego and it was a pleasure shooting in not only large beautiful rooms, but also with a super accommodating staff. Laura from Serendipity Events is also the exact reason I always suggest to brides to hire a wedding coordinator. With so many locations and details that go into a wedding day, having someone to depend on to take care of those things is priceless. She even showed up with an emergency kit. For real....you want someone looking over your wedding day that carries a kit.
The was my first wedding shooting at the Immaculata Parish on the USD campus. I could tell you how breathtaking the church is, but I am a photographer so I can actually show you images. The sheer size of the Immaculata is impressive. It is almost a religious experience just being inside such an amazing structure. I have shot a lot of church weddings in San Diego, but the Immaculata is in a league of its own.
The reception was held at the Ultimate Skybox in downtown San Diego. I had seen other photographers images from the Ultimate Skybox and have always wanted to shoot there. I was completely geeked out when Desiree told me that was the venue they booked. There is NO place in San Diego that is as a unique venue as the Ultimate Skybox. Hands down. None. Not only is the Ultimate Skybox staff wedding professionals, but the view....man that VIEW! From the Coronado bridge, across Petco Park and all throughout downtown.
